Free North Korea Radio -- South Korea

Free North Korea Radio, a clandestine station based in South Korea, was received on  8 May 2011 from 12.00-14.00 UTC on 15.645 kHz. Programming consisted of commentary in the Korean language and some Western pop tunes.

Signal (SINPO) at 12.00 UTC was fair with strong jamming, presumably from the DPRK, at 21132. At 12.45 UTC signal was 22232. While reception was weak, jamming was virtually eliminated with Lower Sideband (LSB) and narrow filter settings, allowing for audible and discernible speech. At 13.40 UTC signal was much weaker at 11121, yet still audible in LSB mode. At 13.59 UTC severe jamming prevented further reception; either that or the transmission ended abruptly allowing for the subsequent noise.

Reception report was submitted by post and email. QSL is pending verification. On 5 December 2012,  Free North Korea Radio (FNKR) sent this message: "Thank you so much for your message, I have forwarded it to the people at FNKR! Have a great day!" This is the first response from these folks I have received since submitting a reception report in May and subsequent follow-up reports. Hopefully this is a sign that a QSL will be forthcoming.
